Description

This course introduces students to the origins, histories and cultures of the diverse Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest. Students will explore content largely presented through Indigenous perspectives that include both historical and contemporary narratives.

Recognize and describe the diversity of Indigenous peoples and cultures of the Pacific Northwest.

Comprehend and express the critical roles that oral histories, story, and traditional ecological knowledge play in Indigenous cultures and communities in the Pacific Northwest.

Assess and convey how past and current events have impacted Indigenous peoples, communities, and nations in the Pacific Northwest, both historically and in a contemporary sense.

Demonstrate knowledge of the critical importance and role sovereignty and self-determination have in Indigenous communities in the Pacific Northwest.
