Description

Provides further development of skills in the computer-aided three-dimensional modeling technology used by designers in various disciplines including industrial design, graphic design, web design, game design, sculpture, and animation. Focus is on developing advanced skills in rendering and presentation.

Course Learning Outcomes

Illustrate a firm, rigorous understanding of the function of 3D modeling software.

Critique their own creative designs and give support to others through constructive analysis.

Be highly skilled in the use of 3D programs both technically and artistically.

Demonstrate their mastering of how and when industrial design software is used to assist the development of creative designs.

Understand the value of a thorough industrial design process where multiple layout ideas are explored and refined—from thumbnail sketches to finished presentation comprehensives.

Understand & use advanced features of the software such as derivatives, Boolean operations, sweeping, revolving, skinning, and C-mesh tools.

Understand the scanning process, its variables and post-scan adjustments.

Understand the role in design software of layers, channels, layer masks, and alpha channels in creating and editing files.

Develop drawings using a variety of tools, filters, collage and combinations to create compelling presentations.

Import files from other programs, and compose page layouts containing text, images & graphics.

Teaches advanced digital skills of using 3DS Max (or other comparable 3D design software like Rhino).
Explores the process of applying advanced skills in creating complex and organic form creation, and polished professional layouts.
