Description

Continuation of study of the principles of drawing from observation, with investigation of proportion, modeling and perspective in various drawing media.

Course Learning Outcomes

Better comprehend and apply the principles of visual measuring and proportioning, including regular grid systems and variable sighting procedures.

Better comprehend and apply the principles of light and shadow, including light-shadow organizations on basic and complex volumes, and on various textural and material surfaces.

Better comprehend and apply the geometric principles of perspective, including orthographic foreshortening and vanishing point systems.

Display more developed studio skills with traditional drawing media and processes (including pencil, charcoal, conte crayon, pastel, and pen & ink).

Understand artists and developments of drawing in the history of art.

Better express themselves and ideas through drawing and to comprehend and create meaningful drawings through abstract and formal visual language.

Further development of the concepts introduced in Drawing I (ART 110), including:

Measure and proportion, including:
- Regular measure processes (natural and man-made subject on 4x4 grid)
- Variable measure processes (symmetrical and asymmetrical subject)
- Active and passive shapes (natural and man-made subject)
Light and shadow, including:
- Chiaroscuro on simple volumes.
- Chiaroscuro on complex volumes
- Textures and material surfaces (textured, metallic and transparent subjects)
- Indirect light and tenebroso (indirect light on volumes and tenebroso light on volumes)
Foreshortening and perspective, including:
- Foreshortening of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional subjects
- Vanishing point perspective of 1-point perspective subjects and 2-point perspective subjects
This course will place greater emphasis on the development of individual approaches to form and media.
