Description

This foundation class for graphic designers identifies issues specific to publications and ways in which design principles and techniques are applied to solve them. Topics include effectively organizing content, using type and color, understanding the development of functional and visually engaging compositions, understanding visual and informational hierarchy, and typography.

  1. Investigate graphic design layout options that will include poster design, book Jackets and magazine Covers, Packaging, Audio Packaging/CD covers, Unconventional Advertising, and Annual Reports.
  2. Teaches the fundamentals of classic design and how to apply these principles digitally using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
  3. Explores the classic elements of design (line, shape, form, value, color, and texture) and their relationship to balance, harmony, variety, and other classic design principles.
  4. Class projects teach how to work digitally to create lines and shapes, balance, compositions, abstractions, type combinations, color composition, mixing colors, color palettes, CMYK & RGB, photo collages, tactile textures, and digital collages
  5. Develop practical knowledge and techniques that can be applied across a variety of design areas (drawing, painting, graphic design, industrial design, architectures, etc.
