Description

Studio problems and individual development in relief printmaking. Includes black and white, color, subtractive, and multiblock processes.

Course Learning Outcomes

Analyze and apply the principles and process of relief printmaking, including traditional and contemporary tools, materials and methods.

Analyze and apply the principles of relief print design and planning, including development and appropriate composition, and strategic planning of printing steps leading to final composition.

Analyze and apply the methods of relief block preparation, including subtractive processes with linoleum and various wood surfaces, and additive processes with cardboards.

Analyze and apply the methods of relief printing, including hand-printing and press-printing, and color registration processes with reduction and multi-block prints.

Apply the principles of color and composition to the design of relief prints.

Display a general understanding of artists and developments of relief printmaking in the history of art.
