ART 210: Painting I

Analyze and apply the principles of color observation (including local, illuminant, shadow and reflected colors) at a beginning-level.

Analyze and apply the principles of color interpretation (various limited color palettes) at a beginning-level.

Analyze and apply the principles of composition and design (including figure-ground continuities, active and passive shapes, planar location, balance, focal points, eye movement, and gestalt).

Display results of their experience with traditional and contemporary painting materials and processes (including brush & knife painting, glazing & scumbling applications, and canvas & board surfaces).

Have a general understanding of artists and developments of painting in the history of art.
