Description

Identification, classification and biology of adult insects represented in our local fauna. Includes basic insect biology, external anatomy, keying, sight identification, and collecting and preserving skills. includes lecture, lab and field work. Prerequisites: recent college-level biology course or instructor's signature.

Demonstrate discipline specific skills and competencies:

<li>Recognize the major insect orders of our region through sight identification.</li>
<li>Fundamental knowledge of insect biology with an emphasis on external anatomy.</li>
<li>Ability to use insect taxonomic keys to identify insects to the family level.</li>
<li>Demonstrate insect identification, collection and preservation skills through a required insect collection assignment.</li>
