BIOL& 260: Microbiology

Demonstrate understanding of theories and application of concepts of microbial structure and function, biochemistry, and general and molecular genetics through application of problem-solving techniques developed while studying contemporary microbiological science and using bacteria in the laboratory.

Demonstrate competence and self-confidence required to gain a fuller practical and theoretical understanding of microbiological concepts, and apply the concepts while using bacteria in the laboratory.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing in the context of problem-solving exercises using bacteria in a cooperative lab setting, and in written evaluations.

Anticipate, recognize, and respond to proper methodology in microbiological, biochemical and biomolecular procedures, in lecture, and while using bacteria in the laboratory.

Apply the scientific method and problem-solving skills to microbiological phenomena in a hands-on laboratory using bacteria and using proper techniques to develop complete experimental records, interpret experimental results and draw conclusions based on those results from experiments using bacteria.

Use and understand modern microbiological and biomolecular laboratory instrumentation using bacteria in the laboratory at a level equivalent to that of students in the major preprofessional and transfer institutions.
