Description

Counseling theory/techniques for individuals, groups, families and adolescents dealing with substance use disorders (SUD). Focus on theoretical treatment models best suited for SUD treatment.

Recognize various individual and group counseling theories and their therapeutic interventions for the addicted population.

Critically analyze and discuss various theories of counseling including their merits and drawbacks.

Critically analyze and discuss the issues and special needs around adolescent treatment.

Recognize family dysfunction and the need for treatment in families of addicted populations, including adult children of addiction, trauma and other issues.

Understanding of the various counseling approaches to individual, group, adolescent and family treatment, including their strengths and limitations.
