Description

Investigate the social construction of La Chicana/Mexicana gender in both Mexico and the United States, but primarily in the United States. This investigation will include literary analysis, historical perspectives, feminist approaches and Chicana intellectualism. Additional points of study include Machismo, gender manifestations and Chicanas in contemporary society.

Acquire a general understanding of the formation of Chicana identity, including how it is created and attributed within society.

Develop an understanding of the Chicana/Mexicana experience.

Apply knowledge and experience to foster personal growth and better appreciation of the role of gender in Chican@/United States culture.

Interpret, through a variety of mediums, the social construct of gender, and in particular how it applies to Chicanas.

Acquire general knowledge about Chicana intellectualism, including the fostering of Chicana history as a field of study.

Express cultural awareness, sensitivity, and diversity.
