Description

Broaden scope of methods for teaching classroom and laboratory science in elementary educational settings in earth sciences, life sciences, physical science, and engineering. Develop scientific activities and thinking, including investigation, collection and analysis of evidence, logical reasoning, and use of academic language aligned with national and state standards.

Admission into the BAS-Teaching program; minimum 2.0 on all previous 300-level ECED and EDUC courses.

Course Learning Outcomes

Connect core ideas across the earth and space sciences, the life sciences, physical sciences, and engineering design using the Crosscutting Concepts as an organizational framework.

Describe the relationship between engineering and science in order to plan and implement a comprehensive science curriculum.

Explain the interactions between culture and science by identifying the contributions of diverse individuals to the development of science and technology and describing how science and technology have affected individuals, cultures, and societies throughout human history.

Explain the basic science concepts and phenomena using knowledge of scientific processes, skills, technologies, and resources needed to support scientific inquiry.

Develop a hypothesis, plan, and conduct investigations to answer scientific questions or solve engineering problems using the scientific method in earth sciences, life sciences, physical science, and engineering.

Create a developmentally appropriate inquiry-based lesson plan using the content knowledge learned in this course and the state early learning guidelines or NGSS.
