Description

Develops whitewater guiding skills and competencies through hands-on experience on the river and in the classroom. The skill and competencies include outdoor leadership, naturalist training, risk management, reading whitewater and maneuvering paddle rafts. This course includes four arranged weekend trips during the quarter.

Demonstrate the necessary skills to safely maneuver a raft down a class 2+ rapid

Lead diverse groups of people through all of the components of a whitewater safety talk

Identify common river hazards and know the procedures in avoiding these hazards.

Understand the risks associated with whitewater rafting, cold water and expedition travel.

Articulate the natural history and local ecology of local river corridors

Demonstrate an appreciation and knowledge of water resource management and policy
