A non-music major humanities course designed to trace the development of rock musical styles from roots in American pop music, blues and jazz to modern present day rock styles.

Course Learning Outcomes

Develop critical listening skills through directed listening assignments and classroom discussion of specific elements of Rock performance and recordings.

Recognize the historical genre of specific styles within Rock Music, and to trace the development of each, relating them to previous musical styles.

Understand the influence of major personalities as they appear in development of various styles.

Trace the development of Rock styles through relevant historical events in the U.S. and abroad.
