Description

Introduction to the principles of voice production, vocal literature, techniques and stage presence, including basic preparation for solo performance. Class members may perform in public. Students may incur extra fees for accompanist assistance. May be repeated for credit.

Course Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate fundamentals of vocal production; namely posture, breathing, tone and projection.

Secure a basic level of musicianship including accuracy of notes and rhythm, clarity of consonants, purity of vowels and proper diction.

Achieve a respectable level of musicality and stage presence through proper phrasing, style, vitality, interpretation, personal expression and the ability to communicate effectively with an audience.

Learn a variety of solo vocal literature.

Perform at least three selections from memory.

Extend his/her vocal range.

Strengthen performance skills.

Enhance personal growth and enrichment through live performance.
