MUS 172: Vocal Jazz Ensemble

Begin to know a variety of vocal jazz literature and style designed for use with a small ensemble.

Begin to acquire continued mastery of proper vocal technique including,
<ol type="a">
<li>proper posture and breathing</li>
<li>production of tone</li>
<li>accurate pitch within a section and in relation to other sections</li>
<li>accurate execution of rhythmic figures in the same contexts,</li>
<li>the ability to sing phrases</li>
<li>the ability to match vowel sounds</li>
<li>the ability to involve an audience in the music by the use of individual expression</li>
</ol>

Enhance sight reading skills.

Enrich appreciation of jazz through the singing jazz music

Acquire knowledge of vocal jazz literature in a diversity of languages including Spanish and other European languages

Perform with a variety of accompaniments.
