Description

An intensive course in basic college readiness skills including college navigation, study skills, and reading, writing, and math fundamentals. Students will have the opportunity to strengthen their English and math foundation and receive assistance with correct placement in writing and math. Course includes presentations from guest speakers from across campus.

Demonstrate understanding of basic college course structures: syllabus, textbooks, deadlines, workload expectations, office hours, how to effectively communicate with instructors, sequences of courses, prerequisites, student placement

Access and navigate the college’s on-campus student support resources: Write Lab, Math Center, Library, counselors, access and equity

Access and navigate the online resources: Canvas, EdReady, e-tutoring, Online Math Center tutoring, Online Write Lab services, CTC Link

Explain and apply study skills strategies, including time management, goal setting, note-taking, exam preparation, test anxiety reduction, and brain-based learning strategies to their math courses.

Implement effective time management strategies: prioritizing, procrastination, balancing workload expectations

Use online resources to strengthen math foundation and/or improve math placement

Demonstrate fundamental skills in reading comprehension of essays and textbooks

Demonstrate knowledge of the writing process: Writing to a purpose, outlines, peer reviews and revision, plagiarism
