SAM (Skills Assessment Manager) is a web-based application that measures student proficiency in Microsoft Office software and technology-related topics. SAM uses skill-based assessments, interactive training, real-world projects and just-in-time remediation to help you master essential computing skills. You will need to have a Cengage Unlimited account or purchase a SAM access code with an e-book in order to complete projects and trainings for modules 1 through 7. You can purchase Cengage Unlimited/SAM access code through the WVC bookstore or through the publisher’s website at Cengage.com. If you already have a Cengage Unlimited account for the year, you should have access to SAM and the textbook. You can access SAM at sam.cengage.com to complete all required module trainings and projects.
For each SAM tutorial module, you will complete one training and three projects. The training for each module can be completed multiple times before the due date; however, the three projects have limits. You can complete and submit the textbook project up to three times and each A & B project only twice before the due date. All training and projects for each tutorial must be completed and submitted to Canvas by their due date for credit.
All group discussions and exams for each module are posted on Canvas and must be completed by their due date. Please check Canvas modules for specific due dates.
MIDTERM/FINAL PROJECTS:
You will have one midterm capstone project in SAM that covers Modules 1-4. At the end of the quarter, you will have an optional final workbook as a final project if you are unable to take the Microsoft Excel 2019 certification exam. As an alternative option to the certification test, you will create a final workbook project. Details for the exam and optional final project is in the Finals module on Canvas.
MICROSOFT OFFICE SPECIALIST EXCEL 2019 EXAM:
You will take the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) exam for Excel 2019 via Certiport's Exams From Home (EFH) option. You must create an account with Certiport in order to take the exam. When you sign up for a Certiport account, you should use your personal email rather your school email as your certification transcript is hosted on this site. More details and instructions about the certification exam process can be found on Canvas.
Signup for GMetrix to prepare yourself to pass the Excel 2019 certification exam. With a GMetrix account, you can access up to 100 practice exams which mimics the real testing environment. To use this resource, please download the GMetrix app at gmetrix.net/download. After downloading the application and creating an account with GMetrix login into the site and redeem the access code found in the Canvas course logistics page or contact your instructor for current code. This will give you access to the test prep materials to help prepare you to take the MOS certification exam.
