First of two mathematics content courses for elementary education majors. Topics include number theory, the real number system, place value, operations and algorithms with whole numbers and rational numbers, ratios, proportions, percents, and functions. Emphasis is placed on mathematical reasoning, problem solving, modeling, communication of mathematical ideas, and analysis of common student misconceptions in relation to Pre-Kâ8 mathematics standards.
Placement by assessment or MATH 99 with a C or better.
