Description

Classification, morphology, anatomy, growth and development, ecology and management of arthropod, weed, disease and vertebrate pests and their natural enemies. History of pest management that includes development of IPM strategies and tactics and how they are utilized in ecologically-based pest management programs.

Provide a basic explanation of the fundamentals of an integrated pest management program.

Describe the factors (biological and environmental) that impact the abundance and distribution of pest and their natural enemies.

Provide a basic explanation of the concepts essential to plant pathology.

Explain the plant disease triangle and how pathogen, host, and environment are related to disease cycles

Categorize what organisms cause plant disease, how they are transmitted by pest and other modalities.

Apply a basic knowledge of plant pathology and how an understanding of disease and insect cycles are used in preventing and limiting crop damage by pathogens, insects and vectors of plant diseases.

Identify and recognize symptoms of common plant diseases and apply a basic knowledge of these diseases and how they infect their hosts.

Explain aspects of general entomology; this includes insect morphology, classification, and biology.

Identify common insect and mite pests and their natural enemies, including arthropods.

Explain the use of monitoring programs of pest and their enemies for damage (and or) potential damage and what types of control can be used to prevent crop damage.

Identify common weed species in agriculture and describe the management techniques applied to weeds.

Identify vertebrate pests in agriculture and describe the management techniques applied to vertebrate pests.

Detail a historical perspective on the evolution of pest management strategies.

Apply an understanding of the relationship between pest and disease in an agro-ecosystem and design management strategies to minimize both.
