Week 1 Language (Human vs Animal) and Origin of Language Week 2 Phonetics, begin Phonology (prosody, theory, features and typology, rules) Week 3 Finish Phonology, Review, Test 1, begin Semantics (meaning in language, lexical semantics) Week 4 Begin Phonetics Week 5 Morphology (signs, classification of words and morphemes) Typology and Syntax Week 6 review for Test 2Pragmatics, Sociolinguistics, Language contact, Historical-Comparative Linguistics Week 7 History of English Week 8 Dialects of American English, Native American Languages, Ecological Linguistics Test 3 Week 9 Origin and Development of Writing (Alternatives to Alphabet) Week 10 Continue and finish Writing or Review for Final (Depends on quarter schedule)
