Description

Pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics and pharmacotherapeutics of drugs. This course discusses safety concerns related to scope of practice, accurate dosage calculations, medication administration and monitoring, route of administration, as well as special considerations across the lifespan in prevention and treatment of chronic illness.

Course Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate an understanding of the pharmacokinetics of medications used to treat alterations in homeostasis, metabolism, reproductive, and cardiopulmonary function.

Examine the pharmacotherapeutics of medications to promote wellness across the lifespan.

Calculate accurate medication dosages and conversions.

Examine client variables that lead to alterations in medication responses.

Identify age specific strategies for safe medication administration.

Demonstrate a knowledge of safe preparation and proper methods for administration or medications used to treat alterations in homeostasis, metabolism, reproductive, and cardiopulmonary function.

Integrate knowledge of medications when developing an individualized nursing plan of care.

Apply effective teaching strategies when educating clients about medications.
