Description

An introduction to the basics of radiation protection and an orientation to radiographic equipment, laboratory and facility safety. A detailed analysis of principles related to radiographic image formation and acquisition. Image evaluation and laboratory experiments reinforce theoretical principles.

Course Learning Outcomes

Understand and utilize basic radiation protection concepts.

Understand safety procedures of the RADT lab and WVC as posted in the lab and classrooms.

Describe orally and in writing the various types of beam limiting devices and grids and explain the purpose of each and their effect on scatter radiation image quality and patient dose.

Discuss the various image receptors.

Analyze the relationships of exposure factors and their effects on exposure calculations and radiographic exposure index and image noise.

Describe various aspects of digital imaging.

Radiation protection, equipment orientation, laboratory safety and facility safety, identification and use of various image receptors: photostimulable plates (PSP), digital detectors, beam limiting devices and filters, grids, attenuation, density / brightness, and primary exposure factors.
