Description

Select, administer, score, and interpret a variety of formal and informal assessment tools. Use assessment data to evaluate students for eligibility and placement into general and special education programs. Develop IEPs and IFSPs for children who are culturally, linguistically, and ability diverse and their families.

Admission into the BAS-Teaching Program and minimum 2.0 on all previous 300-level ECED and EDUC courses.

Course Learning Outcomes

Define and discuss various types of assessments including the legal and ethical principles that apply to the assessment process.

Explain concepts of measurement, reliability, and validity.

Identify and discuss developmentally appropriate responses to various assessments.

Explain the processes related to child-find screening, pre-referral, response to intervention (RTI), referral, eligibility procedures, extended school year, and transition procedures.

Select and use a variety of assessments to inform decisions regarding appropriate placement and services to infants and children with disabilities, and students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Correctly administer, score, and interpret data from assessments in order to collaboratively construct and Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) for children with disabilities.

Communicate and integrate assessment and ongoing evaluation results from other in eligibility decisions and the development of and implementation of an IEP and IFSP.

Utilize ongoing assessment and evaluation data to determine the effectiveness of specially designed instruction and related services.
