Description

Refine skills and strategies for observing, documenting, and monitoring children who are culturally, linguistically, and ability diverse and their families. Identify and evaluate strategies for tracking student progress toward meeting IFSP outcomes, IEP goals, or 504 goals.

Prerequisites

Admission into the BAS-Teaching Program and minimum 2.0 on all previous 300-level ECED and EDUC courses.

Course Learning Outcomes

Identify and use various developmentally and culturally appropriate practices to observe, record, and assess development and learning.

Evaluate various progress monitoring tools and formative and summative assessment strategies for the purpose of setting goals, adapting for individual differences, and planning appropriate programs, environments, and interactions.

Evaluate and use standardized assessment tools integrating standardized data in order to make informed decisions about adaptations and modifications to instruction.

Articulate strategies on how to engage children in developmentally appropriate self-assessment and goal setting.

Evaluate the process of involving families in the assessment process and communicating assessment information with families.

Integrate assessment results from the student support team in the development and implementation of 504 plans, Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), and Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs) for children with special developmental and learning needs.
