Description

Advanced study of the materials, cultural styles, and techniques of Native American beading, including beading onto leather and completion of a large project.

Course Learning Outcomes

Recognize patterns and colors used by different Native American nations.

Utilize up to 12 colors in a complex design researched or created by the student, such as an animal or a floral design, and applied to a large project.

Demonstrate the ability to shade designs using appropriate color combinations.

Be able to bead onto leather.

Analyze and translate patterns into beaded designs at an advanced-level.

Learn and use vocabulary unique to Native American beading, its materials and techniques.

Demonstrate a general understanding of the cultural values and responsibilities related to traditional Native American beadwork and design.
