Course Learning Outcomes

  • Lab safety – biological, chemical, electrical, fire and mechanical
  • Phlebotomy – routine phlebotomy
  • Basic lab skills – pipetting, micropipetting, microscope usage, fluid management
  • Chemistry testing – spectrophotometer usage
  • Hematology/coagulation testing – slide making and staing, WBC differentials
  • Blood bank testing – reagents, 3% RBC suspenstion, tube reaction grading, ABO/Rh testing
  • Serological testing – EIA testing
  • Urinalysis testing – macroscopic, chemical and microscopic exams
  • Bacteriological testing – media, Gram stain prep and reading, plate streaking, urine and throat cultures, biochemical testing
