Description

An introduction to concepts and theories basic to the art and science of nursing, with an emphasis on health promotion across the lifespan. This course incorporates the WVC Nursing Program's philosophy, history of nursing, professional concepts, physical/psychosocial assessment, client safety, principles of effective communication, and methods to promote client learning.

Acceptance to the Nursing Program and concurrent enrollment with the following: NURS 101, NURS 151, PHIL 105, NUTR 105, PSYC 105, PHARM 101

Identify steps of the nursing process to develop a basic nursing plan of care.

Define the role of the professional nurse as communicator, client advocate and member of the healthcare team.

Identify how to utilize verbal and non-verbal techniques in therapeutic communication.

Discuss holistic, developmental, and cultural assessments as a basis for patient-centered care.

Describe factors that create a culture of safety, across the lifespan.
