Description

Introduces reading skills needed in the technical workplace with emphasis on strategies using context clues, word elements, identifying main ideas and supports, understanding and reading graphs, diagrams and charts and outlining.

Appropriate assessment scores or at least a "C" (2.0) grade in ENGL 092 or READ 92.

Course Learning Outcomes

Use context clues and word elements to unlock the meaning of unfamiliar words, especially technical terms in college textbooks and work related material.

Deal with study reading using such strategies as SQ3R, data charting, webbing, highlighting and note taking, outlining, summarizing, and remembering what is important in preparation for tests and understanding reading materials, graphs, diagrams, and charts in students’ particular technical programs.

Use critical thinking to problem solve issues in their technical fields.
