Description

An overview of principles of the interaction of radiation with living systems, radiation effects on living systems and factors affecting biologic response; responsibilities of the radiographer regarding principles of radiation protection for the radiographer, patient and public; radiation health and safety recommendations and requirements of federal and state agencies.

Course Learning Outcomes

Identify major natural and man-made radiation origins.

Discuss the methods of radiation monitoring, detection, and measurement.

Describe the effects of radiation on cells, biomolecules, and the whole body.

Identify federal and state regulatory agencies and regulations and recommendations for radiation exposure.

Understand the radiographer’s radiation protection responsibility as it pertains to patients, personnel, and the public.
