Description

Basic concepts and procedures of patient care, including consideration for the cultural, physical and psychological needs of various patient ages, and their families. Routine and emergency patient care procedures and application of Standard Precautions. Basic concepts of pharmacology, basic theory and practice of venipuncture and administration of diagnostic contrast agents.

Course Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate basic concepts of patient care and safety to include consideration for the physical and psychological needs of the patient and family.

Begin to explain and utilize verbal and nonverbal techniques as a basis for therapeutic communication in the care of patients.

Demonstrate routine and emergency patient care procedures.

Analyze the administration of parenteral fluids (pharmaceutical and contrast media) in terms of methods, description/purpose and considerations.

Demonstrate an understanding of the concepts of drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion.

Discuss legal (governmental regulation and healthcare law) and ethical responsibilities of the radiographer in relation to the administration of radiopaque contrast media.

Demonstrate a beginning understanding of venipuncture on simulation arms.

Interact politely, professionally, and ethically with other members of the health care team.

Integration of the knowledge of RADT theory with hands-on simulated practice. Safe use of equipment and proper use of radiation protection for self, patient and others.
