Description

Continued emphasis on development of Heritage Spanish language skills learned at home and/or in the community. Expands on comprehension and vocabulary gained in Spanish 231 by focusing on written Spanish, reading activities, developing more advanced formal grammar skills, and becoming aware of the different variants of Spanish.

Course Learning Outcomes

Strengthen their grammar and vocabulary, targeting areas where Heritage Spanish users tend to be weak; understand various forms of formal usage, including cultural and regional/dialectical variances.

Communicate in the formal written/oral mode to a targeted audience in order to present, explain, evaluate and/or summarize information; and also to present one’s own idea and perspective in order to argue and support one’s point of view; or to reflect on.

Have deeper knowledge about the Heritage language and culture which will contribute to their identity as lifelong Spanish learners and understand the dynamic relationship between language and culture.

Critically analyze formally-written authentic text while reinforcing and furthering their knowledge of the language they already possess to examine the semantic, syntactic, and lexical feature of the text.
