Advanced study of the theory and practice of printmaking. Emphasis on the development of individual approaches to form and media.

Course Learning Outcomes

Analyze and apply the principles and process of relief and/or intaglio printmaking, including traditional and contemporary tools, materials and methods at an advanced level.

Analyze and apply the principles of relief and/or intaglio print design and planning, including development and appropriate composition, and strategic planning of printing steps leading to final composition at an advanced level.

Display advanced analysis and application of the methods of printing plate preparation, including subtractive and additive processes, single-plate and multi-plate processes.

Show advanced analysis and application of the methods of printing, including hand-printing and press-printing, and color registration processes with multi-block prints.

Apply the principles of color and composition to the design of relief and/or intaglio prints in an advanced capacity.

Display strong understanding of artists and developments of relief and/or intaglio printmaking in the history of art.
